Next Asia Media Summit explores media and development

The intersections of media and development – especially regarding issues like poverty, access to information, and women’s rights – will be discussed at the fifth Asia Media Summit, scheduled for May 27 and 28, 2008, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Organizers say the theme will focus on new media, their role in today’s media environment, and their impact on the news business. Discussion sessions will examine how the developing countries of Asia and Africa can connect with Europe, North America, and the rest of the developed world via these new media and other technology.

There is no registration fee for public service broadcasters, members, affiliates and partners of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD). Registration for private networks, institutes, and individuals is US$600 and includes three nights’ accommodation at the summit hotel, three breakfasts, coffee breaks, two lunches, and one dinner, as well as all seminar materials. Registration of Malayasian private networks, institutes and individuals is MYR400 (about US$116) and includes all services and meals, but excludes accommodation.
